What to Expect
Wonder what it might be like to visit Lynwood Friends? We can give you a little bit of an idea before you arrive. Firstly, people always seem concerned about what to wear to church. Fear not! Our congregation is a causal one. Feel free to wear your casual or dressy attire. Hopefully we get to meet you soon!
You’ll be greeted warmly and handed a worship folder as you make your way into the foyer.
If you have kiddos, someone may ask if they would like to attend “Sunday School” for the duration of the service. You will get an opportunity to see the classrooms and meet our teachers. We have nursery care available for folks with babies 0-3 years, but please feel comfortable to have your baby with you in the service. A little fussing never bothered anyone.
On your way back to the foyer, you’ll see some hot coffee and maybe a light refreshment for you to enjoy. Dig in!
You are welcome to visit in the foyer or find your seat in the sanctuary.
Most likely you’ll take this moment to read over your worship folder for announcements and other helpful information. Perhaps you’ll meet a few of the folks seated around you.
We typically begin service by joining together in song. While you won’t see many people up dancing around, we want you to express yourself however you feel most comfortable during this time.
We take a few moments during the service to pause and greet one another. We call this our “Call to Community” time. The people around you will offer you a handshake and introduce themselves.
Offering will be the next thing to come. We sing and pass the offering plate giving folks the opportunity to support Lynwood and its ministry financially. As a visitor, there is no expectation to contribute. This time of offering is done as part of our service as it is worship for us as a fellowship of believers and as a community.
Chances are you’ll be hearing a sermon from Bill Moormann, our head pastor. He uses outlines as a tool for guided listening and learning during his speaking. You’ll see it in your worship folder. Hard of hearing? Great! He tends to project 🙂
Every Sunday we spend time practicing Open Worship. This is often a new and sometimes confusing experience for people. Another Friends church summed up this practice saying, , “We also have time set aside in our service for what is called open worship. At this time, we grow silent to provide space for Christ to speak to us. Some people are confused or struggle with how to enter into this type of worship. Anyone who feels the Spirit leading is free to share with the gathering. Sometimes people pray aloud. Other times someone may share a brief message that God has placed on her/his heart. There really is no “right way” to respond during open worship.”
Worship Service starts at 10am
